1. The Police in Benue State have confirmed the assassination of a community leader, one Godwin Gbaiur. Gunmen struck in the early hours of Saturday in Kastina Ala Local Government Area of the state. Spokesman of the Benue Command, Moses Joel Yamu, said the incident happened at about 6:48am at the victim’s resident in Kastina Ala town.

2. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has warned that the 2019 general election may not hold if killings and kidnapping persist. National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, made the statement while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Friday. Gabam urged President Muhammadu Buhari to see to the immediate end of all security threats in the interest of Nigerians whom he swore to protect.

3. Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State has opened talks to choose a new deputy governor. Lukman Abubakar, his special assistant on communication, said the Governor has confirmed that consultations with critical stakeholders on new Deputy Governor starts next week.

4. Real Madrid have clinched the Champions League for a third consecutive year.
The LaLiga giants beat Liverpool 3-1 in Saturday’s final in Kiev, to retain the trophy again.
Karim Benzema capitalized on Karius’ mistake to open scoring in the second half, before Sadio Mane equalized from a set piece.Zidane’s decision to introduce Gareth Bale paid off as the Welshman netted twice after coming on for Isco.

5. Elder statesman and Chairman, Northern Elders Council, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai , has said that President Muhammadu has only done well in the area of noise making in his three years in office. Yakasai wondered why the president has failed to prosecute anyone in his anti-corruption war, adding that he lacks the qualities of a good leader.
The elder statesman said Buhari should not be seeking a second term because, according to him, the president has failed Nigerians.

6. No fewer than 24 passengers escaped death narrowly on Friday after two boats collided and capsized in Ojo area of Lagos State. The accident, which occurred at about 7:45pm close to the Ojo Terminal involved two open fiber boats. Managing Director of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Damilola Emmanuel, said one of the boats was driving at full capacity with 22 passengers, while the other had just the boat captain and deckhand on board. All passengers were rescued alive.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC), has proven to be the stumbling block to the collective quest for national cohesion, happiness and economic prosperity for all citizens. It added that the APC has demonstrated that it was never a political party designed for governance and development, but a contraption for oppression and vendetta. This was contained in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan.

8. The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has alleged that the killings in the country were part of moves to declare Sharia across Nigeria as planned by the leader of Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau. The President of CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle stated this while reacting to the killings in Benue and Taraba States.

9. Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, Chairman, former New PDP, has spoken on the group’s recent parley with APC leadership. He also disclosed that the outcome of the meeting was shared with a number of nPDP members. He mentioned Saraki, Dogara, Dasuki, and others as those who attended the meeting.

10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched a probe into the controversy surrounding the $16 billion allegedly spent on power projects during the administration of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo. Report says that EFCC may invite two ex-ministers, former top officials of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), present and past officials of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company and all the people recommended for investigation by a committee of the House of Representatives.
